Been a while since I posted, been too busy training (and negotiating…)

Have many things coming down the pike. I promise big news soon.

For today’s training I did a little speedwork.

9 miles done as:

3 Miles @8:00 pace
3 Miles @7:00 pace
3 Miles @6:30 pace

No rest or recovery, just let it fly. Feel the burn and collapse…….

Training in the Rain

2 hour run on urban dirt trail today. The weather made what should have an easy recovery run an epic “curse the gods test of will”……

The rain was blowing hard into my face making it hard to keep my eyes open other than when looking straight down at my shoes, the wind was providing plenty of resistance to make for a strength building session, not a recovery run….but, for that I was thankful.
There was NO WAY I was letting the weather tell me when I had to call it quits….

Awesome day. Sun came out just as I finished.. Lol.

I went to the Avs playoff game last night (I still gt my running in early) so I havent updated my blog…

..Tonight was a great hill/ speedwork session:

Started with a 23:00 5k on the treadmill.

Then did 12% incline for 3 miles fast hike (45:00)

Finished with an 8:30 flat mile.

awesome night.

Back on the trails tomorrow. Its gonna be a “lighter week” for recovery, but I will still get 10 hours of running in.


Sunday (yesterday) I did a 7.25 speed-work session early in the morning.

Training 4-15-2010

Followed the 5 hours on the trails yesterday with 2.5 hours today. Did two Dowdy Draw loops for around 14 miles with some steady uphills. I felt super human. Light as a feather.

My nutrition and hydration is really coming together.


Training Run Bouder Foothills

I had a great 5 hour training run today with my buddy Jerry. I had a tough hill workout that lasted until almost 11pm last night, then I was up at 5am and out the door to run long…..

I ended up starting the run very dehydrated. In fact I didn’t pee the whole 5 hours on the trails (Bright orange when I did) I know; “TMI”.

I started the run feeling unstoppable; really light and fast uphill and down. But I started to fade around four hours in. I did manage to “put the wheels back on and have a great run. I really need to do a better job showing up hydrated and rested at the run start…

We did get in a considerable amount of climbing and really had a great run. We will be back on the trails early tomorrow!

Today is the first day up and running with the Leadville blog!

I have an “uphill treadmill workout” planned for this evening after work. Usually I go for an hour and 15 minutes at a 10-15% incline to simulate going over Hope Pass.

 I will turn on the “Five Finger Death Punch” or “Megadeth” and just jam….sometimes the gym gods provide visual stimulation for me on the stairmachine in front of me 🙂

This workout usually goes until 10-10:30pm followed by a 5+ hour mountain run at sunrise tomorrow…

I am David Clark.

I used to weigh 320lbs and struggled with alcohol addiction. Today, five years later I lead a very different life. I weigh 170lbs and I have completed several marathons, triathlons and ultra-marathons.
I am a patriot lover of the USA, and an unapologetic supporter of the greatest nation in the history of civilization. I am a happy family man and devoted husband. My love of family, country and running are my anchor to the world.
This blog will chronicle my training for the Leadville 100 mile trail run. This August on my fifth year anniversary of my new life, I will run non-stop for 100 miles thorough the Colorado Rockies in this extreme endurance race.
Please comment if you care to, your posts and thoughts are not only inspirational to me now as I train, but I will store them for review during the actual event in the wee hours of the night when it is just me and the trees and mountain lions…….
